The following pages present a
series of portfolios by the founders
of La Gondola. Unfortunately,
Alfredo Bresciani’s images could not
be included.
All images are from La Gondola’s
Historical Archives.
From the introduction to:
“30
years of Photography in Venice: the
Circolo “La Gondola” 1948-1978”
Reminiscing how “La Gondola” was
born is above all reliving times
gone by –the immediate post war
years, when we had high hopes and
expectations , encouraged by a new
life full of discoveries and future
opportunities. Venice to me was so
extraordinary and stimulating in
many directions, especially
photography […]In
Turin the Italian Federation of
Photographic Associations had just
been founded and admitted to the
International Federation of
Photographic Art, so we decided we
had to create a new Venetian Circolo
and join the international
Federation. The four founders of the
group La Gondola were, in
alphabetical order, Gino Bolognini,
Giorgio Bresciani, Paolo Monti and
Luciano Scattola. I can’t remember
who suggested the name, so Venetian
and soon to become famous in Italy
and abroad […]
Thanks to my friends’ benevolence, I
had the honour to lead the Circolo
from 1948 to 1953: today, after over
thirty years of photography, here I
am living again that happy time
which allowed me to turn a passion
into a job, a rare fortune indeed
for a man.
